We are mad scientists!

Today we did an experiment with vinegar & lemon juice, baking soda and balloons.

We tasted the vinegar.  It was sour because vinegar is an acid.  The lemon juice was sour too.  We remembered that the baking soda tasted bitter from our sherbet experiment.

We poured a bit of vinegar into the bottom of the bottle.  We stretched the balloon out with our fingers.  It was a bit tricky so Mrs McKay had to help some of us.  Then we put a few teaspoons of baking soda into the balloon, stretched the balloon out over the neck of the bottle and tipped the baking soda into the bottle.

Whoosh!  The baking soda reacted with the vinegar, creating a gas.  The gas filled the balloon and blew it up.
